Ode to the Beautiful

Published by jenawesome at 11:15 pm under Strange and Unusual, World Edit This

The Chinese, under incredible pressure in the world’s eye, desired to present a flawless image to the world.  Every aspect of the games, from the torch run to the opening ceremony had to be perfect.  Unfortunately such perfection comes at a price that may end up giving China a figurative black eye in the view of the rest of the World.

During the opening ceremony a beautiful little girl was seen singing “Ode to the Homeland”, but it was the voice of another little girl that was heard.  Nine year old Lin Maioke was just as the Chinese government had desired, picture perfect.   She was the girl who had the privilege of wearing a little red dress, standing in front of the world, and taking the credit for the voice that she pretended was her own.

The voice that was actually heard really belonged to a girl who recieved no credit until this portrayal was exposed.  Seven year old Yang Peiyi auditioned before Chinese Olympic officials who loved her voice, but deemed her face too chubby and teeth too crooked to represent China’s perfect image in front of the world during the Olympic games.

Many people around the world have reacted negatively to China’s discrimination in order to present an image of perfection.  It shows that they are more worried about looks than talent.  That it does not matter how talented one really is because if they are not beautiful in every aspect then their talents are worthless.  Not only are they worthless, but they are also free for those deemed perfect to take advantage of.  Fortunately this was exposed to the World, which received it with negative favor.

Yeah, the Chinese are really taking this whole Olympics-thing a little too seriously. Apparently, the fireworks shown during the opening ceremonies was prerecorded footage that was digitally enhanced to make it look more spectacular.
